Pumpkin picking at Spilmans Farm Thirsk 2020

Autumn is my absolute favourite time of year - I love decorating my house, carving pumpkins and getting dressed up! Usually at this time of year, I've been very busy working on various Halloween events but this year is obviously a little different thanks to Covid.

At the start 2019 I sold the website I'd been writing for over twenty years and for the first time in my life, I took a break from blogging. I even had a little time away from my social platforms and really concentrated on my freelance work. It was a fantastic year, full of really exciting projects working for some brilliant companies and brands but it didn't take me long to realise how much I missed blogging and having a space online to share what I was up to and the things I loved. I'd saved some of my absolute favourite content from my old blog, Girl in the North and so in January of this year I created A Little Bit Of and wrote this post explaining what I was up to and my plan for 2020. I don't think anyone at that point had any idea what this year was going to be like...

*This post contains gifted products*

Last year, I was thrilled to start working with one of the world's biggest leading baby brands, Phil & Teds on the UK launch of their brand new inline stroller, Voyager™. As I come to the end of my work with the brand and Edie and Mabel are now walking pretty much everywhere, it seems like a perfect time to share my thoughts.

Bring it 2020

If you follow me on Instagram, then you'll know at the beginning of the year I took the leap and decided to start a completely new business. In an effort to support and be around my parents more, I created The Little Retreat on the Farm.

Where it all begins... again!

I wrote a post with a very similar title back on my old blog girlinthenorth.com in 2016 after I’d been invited to give several lectures and seminars at business groups, colleges and universities on ‘my career.’ At the time I’d recently finished working for an events company which was ran by a public sector organisation, had several creative freelance projects on the go and was weaving writing online around this. I was single, lived in a cute little one bed apartment on the outskirts of a city and spent my spare time reviewing day spas and new launches.

Goodbye Girl in the North

Katy Tate

In one form or another I've been writing GirlintheNorth.com since I was 11 years old. My initial intention when I created my first website back in 1998 was to create an online diary, in the hopes of finding some like-minded people to make friends with.

I just want to feel like me again!

It's been nearly a year since I had Edie and Mabel and I'm torn between saying the time has flown over and dragged by. The days have often felt so long (not forgetting quite a few nights) but when I look back to them been born, it feels like only yesterday.
